Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. met with a newly appointed Honorary Consul of Ukraine in New Orleans

On January 16, 2014 Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk met with a newly appointed Honorary Consul of Ukraine in New Orleans, Louisiana, Edward Thomas Hayes.

During the meeting an Agreement on Consular Functions and Responsibilities of the Honorary Consul of Ukraine was signed. Ambassador O.Motsyk presented Edward T. Hayes with Consular Commissions and accreditation card.

Also, the newly appointed Honorary Consul was informed about his obligations, including protection within the consular district (the State of Louisiana) the interests of Ukraine, its citizens and businesses within the international law, and promotion & development of mutually beneficial relations between Ukraine and the United States, in particular, facilitation of the establishment and development of trade & economic, investment, interregional, cultural, educational and scientific relations between Ukraine and the State of Louisiana. In this regard, the sides exchanged views on promising areas for such cooperation, as well as promotion of the Ukrainian exports to the U.S. market, attraction of the U.S. investments to Ukrainian economy and the development of interregional relations between the administrative units of Louisiana and Ukrainian regions.

Ambassador O.Motsyk informed Edward T. Hayes of export and investment opportunities of our country, particularly in high-tech industry, agriculture, engineering, energy, chemical and metallurgical industries and opportunities for developing joint projects in the sphere of tourism. In his turn, Edward T. Hayes told about the great potential of Louisiana in the areas of energy, agriculture, transportation services and tourism.

The newly appointed Honorary Consul was entrusted to begin preparations for the visit of Ukraine’s Ambassador to the State of Louisiana, including New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and to explore a possibility of launching and practical implementation of a number of joint projects in various fields, as well as to consider a visit to Louisiana of Ukrainian delegation and representatives of business circles of Ukrainian regions during 2014.

The meeting was an important step towards further strengthening the representation of interests of Ukraine in the United States, the development of interregional Ukrainian -American cooperation and demonstrated significant potential for the development of bilateral relations between various regions of Ukraine and the State of Louisiana.
