This year, first time in a history of US Marine Corp Marathon, a team of four wounded Ukrainian warriors will take part in 10K run:
- Vadym Svyrydenko
- Vadym Maznichenko
- Pavlo Stepanov
- Dmytro Fesenko
They were selected from a group of 60 candidates who were injured while defending Ukrainian independence against Russian aggression in East Ukraine in 2014-2015.
Two warriors, Vadym Svyrydenko and Vadym Maznichenko, accomplished a rehabilitation course in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, in 2016.
Participation of wounded Ukrainian warriors in the 41st Marine Corps Marathon was made possible by the support of the Allied Forces Foundation and Partnership for Peace Section of the NATO’s Office in Kyiv and with active assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine to the US and volunteer organizations.
All members of the team are very excited about a possibility to travel to the United States and to represent their country in such a prestigious event as MCM. For them it is also important to talk to colleagues from other countries and share their experience of survival and active life even with severe traumas.
A group of rehab specialists and volunteers from Ukraine will accompany the wounded soldiers. They plan to visit US military medical centers and discuss joint activities with US rehab specialists.
The start of 10 km race is scheduled for 9:15 am on October 30 near the Pentagon (map http://www.mcmlocator.com/10k). The finish line is located near Memorial Marine Corps near the Arlington cemetery.
We urge everyone to support Ukrainian soldiers on the 10K run on Sunday 30 October 2016.
