Please be advised that we need not only the name, but also personal data of the deceased Ukrainian such as the copy of his/her ID (if possible Ukrainian passport) or any available information concerning his/her place of final residency in Ukraine and that of his/her relatives.

After receiving the information, the Consular Office will immediately inform relatives in Ukraine or the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Ukraine so that they may establish contact with existing family members in Ukraine. With the consent of the existing family members, we are ready to assist in compliance with the Ukrainian law regarding repatriation of the body.

All other questions should be addressed to the funeral homes themselves.

• In accordance with the Article 22 of the Law of Ukraine on funeral and burial services for the shipment of the remains to Ukraine, the following documents must be provided:
• The deceased's ID, passport or seamen document.
• Authenticated death certificate (section "Documents authentication").
• Non-communication disease document.
• Permission from local cemetery in Ukraine.
• Schedule of shipment.

All above-mentioned documents are to be authenticated (Apostil) by proper Secretary of State Office as well as be attached to the casket so that it may pass through customs and border control in Ukraine.

Pursuant to Article 195 of the Code of Laws on Marriage and Family of Ukraine, a Ukrainian citizen, or a citizen of a foreign state, can enter into a marriage with a foreign national on the territory of Ukraine on a general basis, i.e. in compliance with the terms of Articles 15 and 17 of the Code of Laws on Marriage and Family of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian civil marriage process can take several weeks to several months. To marry a Ukrainian citizen, a U.S. citizen should follow these step-by-step instructions.

If you have been married before, please make sure that you have the original divorce decree or death certificate properly authenticated in the U.S.

Since Ukraine acceded to the 1961 Hague Convention abolishing Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, the U.S. documents destined for use in Ukraine should be certified by one of the officials in the jurisdiction in which the document has been executed. Said official must have been designated as competent to issue certifications by "apostille" (usually in the office of the State Secretary of State of his/her counterpart).

Obtain a certified translation of the data page of your passport, any annulment decrees, divorce decrees or death certificates of your former spouse(s) (if you were previously married).

To arrange for your marriage, take all the documents, including your original passport (with a translation), the authenticated original death or divorce decree (if any) (with translation), and the authenticated Letter of Non-Impediment to Marriage, with translation to RAGS - the civil registrar's office in the hometown of your fiancé(e).
