Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. and Ukrainian American Community marked in Washington, DC the 22nd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence

On August 24th, 2013 representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine to the United States and Ukrainian American Community held a flower-laying ceremony at the Taras Shevchenko Monument in Washington, DC on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

After a joint prayer for Ukraine, Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine to the United States Yaroslav Brisiuck in his welcoming remarks expressed his gratitude to the Ukrainian Americans for their significant contribution to the revival and further development of Ukraine’s Statehood. He also read out greetings by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara to the Ukrainians all over the world.

President of the Association of Ukrainian-American Professionals "The Washington Group" Andrew Bihun in his speech stressed that the Ukrainian Americans see the future of Ukraine in the community of democratic, prosperous European states and support the European aspirations of Ukraine.

The attendees also enjoyed the Ukrainian Chorus of Washington, DC “Spiv-zhyttya” performance featuring Ukrainian folk and contemporary songs.
