On January 27-29, 2014 Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Olefirov paid a working visit to the U.S. wherein he had meetings with officials at the White House, U.S. Department of State and U.S. Congress, as well as with leading American experts on Ukrainian issues.
Besides the issues of U.S.-Ukraine bilateral agenda, A.Olefirov briefed the American side on the details of recent political developments in Ukraine, including the progress of dialogue between the government and opposition as well as the results of the special session of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
U.S. Administration officials, members of Congress and American experts welcomed the first steps towards improvement of the situation in Ukraine, emphasized the unacceptability of violence on all sides, condemned the acts of radical groups and called for continuing dialogue between the government and the opposition to reach a broad compromise.
In the course of discussions on bilateral relations, the sides agreed on necessity to further maintain active political dialogue between Ukraine and the United States, to create favorable conditions for development of bilateral cooperation, especially with regards to issues of long-term economic recovery in Ukraine, strengthening its energy security, as well as promoting European integration of the Ukrainian state.
