On March 11, 2014 Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Olexander Motsyk met with Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Paige Alexander and Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia Daniel Rosenblum.
The meeting, initiated by the Ukrainian side, focused on the prospects of allocating additional funds for the U.S. programs of technical assistance to Ukraine.
Ambassador Motsyk expressed his gratitude to the U.S. Government for continued support of European and democratic aspirations of Ukraine, particularly stressing the importance of U.S. technical assistance to our country.
The U.S. State Department and USAID officials confirmed strong support of the new Government of Ukraine and presented their vision of dealing with the most pressing issues for Ukraine in the nearest future. In particular, they emphasized the United States willingness to assist in ensuring transparent and democratic elections in May 2014, stabilizing Ukraine’s financial sector and recovering stolen assets.
Both sides also agreed that in the medium term programs of technical assistance to Ukraine should focus on facilitating systemic economic reforms, bolstering the competitiveness of Ukrainian companies, combating corruption and enhancing energy security of Ukraine.
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed to continue to work together closely to identify further priorities of cooperation between the U.S. and Ukraine within the framework of technical assistance programs.
