In the framework of the 2011 Sister Cities Annual Conference, organized by the Arlington Sister City Association, the representatives of Ukrainian city Ivano-Frankivsk and Arlington county, Virginia, signed the bilateral sister cities agreement.
On this occasion, the Embassy of Ukraine hosted a meeting that was attended by the representatives of Ivano-Frankivsk and Arlington municipal bodies, US-Ukraine Bisuness Council, Ivano-Frankivsk Chamber of Commerce and organization of young Ukrainian professionals of the USA “The Washington Group”, other members of the American Ukrainian community.
In his address to the participants of the meeting, Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Olexander Motsyk emphasized on the importance of interpersonal and interregional contacts for the development of relations between the two states.
The head of Ukrainian diplomatic mission expressed confidence in the great potential for the successful partnership between Ivano-Frankivsk and Arlington, and also provided the audience with the information about the ambitious plans to develop sister cities relations that Ukrainian Embassy is currently working on. The invitation to participate in this project has been sent to 175 cities in Ukraine.
Established in 1993, the Arlington Sister City Association (ASCA) is a nonprofit organization aimed at enhancing the region’s international profile. ASCA also works to foster productive exchanges in commerce, education, culture and art spheres.
Ivano-Frankivsk has 21 sister cities. This wide network of intercity relations has been established with Poland, Belarus, Russia, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Latvia and Lithuania.
