During a phone conversation with US Vice President, the President of Ukraine announced its initiative to provide Ukrainian and involvement of international humanitarian assistance to Luhansk under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and proposed the US to join this assistance.
Joseph Biden expressed his support for Ukraine's efforts to establish humanitarian assistance in strict accordance with international law and the laws of Ukraine, namely the principles of exclusion of any foreign military support mission, passage of goods through the crossing points conrolled by Ukraine, and the multilateral format of such mission, including participation of the United States. He highly evaluated the sequence of steps made by the President of Ukraine to resolve the situation in Donbas.
Petro Poroshenko thanked the United States for supporting Ukraine's position in the international financial institutions, resulting, in particular, in the recent decision by the World Bank to allocate financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $500 million. He also expressed hope for a positive decision of the International Monetary Fund on August 29 this year regarding the allocation of the second tranche under the program Stand-By.
