President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with American Senator Robert Menendez
The President informed on the escalation of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions due to the aggression against Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko notes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had a significant progress in countering terrorists until Russian Army intruded.
"It is crucially important for Ukraine to receive assistance in its struggle for freedom, democracy and sovereignty," the President emphasized.
In his turn, Senator Menendez noted: "These events threaten not only Ukraine, but also the entire world. The first victims are the people of Ukraine, but they are not the only victims. This is an issue of global security".
Petro Poroshenko informed on the plan to visit the NATO Summit where he intended to hold negotiations with leaders of the member-states on coordination of future actions.
The Head of State conveyed gratitude to the U.S. Congress for the initiative to grant Ukraine a status of the main ally beyond NATO. "It will allow receiving new opportunities from cooperation with the USA and enhancing our security," the President said.
Petro Poroshenko and Robert Menendez discussed the visit of the Ukrainian President to the United States planned for the second part of September and the scheduled meetings with U.S. executives.
The Head of State intends to raise the issue of recognizing the so-called DPR and LPR terrorist organizations in the course of his visit to the United States.
