On September 30, 2014, the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States of America in partnership with U.S. - Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) held the meeting with the leading American companies represented on the Ukrainian market, involved in the investment projects on the territory of our country and interested in expanding cooperation with Ukrainian enterprises, particularly in the spheres of energy, agriculture, IT and aerospace, engineering and defense.
Apart from the representatives of American business and members of the Ukrainian-American community, who play an active role in the development of trade and investment cooperation with the United States, the event was attended by the representatives of federal authorities, including the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Treasury, U.S. Departments of Commerce, Agriculture, Energy and Transportation, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, United States Agency for International Development, U.S. Export-Import Bank and Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
The event was dedicated to recognize the contribution of the U.S. Government representatives, members of the Ukrainian diaspora and American companies to development and deepening of trade and investment cooperation between Ukraine and the United States. In this context, special attention was focused on the joint efforts necessary to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine, recover Ukrainian economy, diversify country's exports and increase American investments in Ukraine. American businessmen expressed their full support of our country’s European aspirations (with regards to the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU) and willingness to provide practical support in the implementation of the most important social and economic reforms. In particular, American companies are ready to provide their expert assistance in combating corruption, improving competitiveness and simplifying regulatory environment.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk noted “Reform Strategy – 2020” recently presented by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the priorities of Ukrainian Government’s economic policy, set out in the Action Plan “Recovery for Ukraine”. The Ambassador thanked American partners for their support of Ukrainian people and their leadership in consolidating international efforts to protect the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Ambassador Daniel Fried, State Department's Coordinator for Sanctions Policy, also addressed the audience.
During the event Ambassador Motsyk also held a number of bilateral meetings with the leadership of American companies that play a leading role in creating jobs in Ukrainian market and paying taxes to the state budget, including the Vice Presidents of “Monsanto”, “Cargill”, “Procter & Gamble”, “GlobalLogic” etc.
The event has become an important platform for representatives of the U.S. Government, American businesses and members of the Ukrainian-American community to exchange their views on further ways to resolve the situation in Ukraine, help the country’s economic recovery and put an end to external aggression against Ukraine.
