At 9 A.M. on August 23, the National Flag of Ukraine was solemnly raised atop the building of the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA in the presence of Embassy’s staff and their families. The ceremony was attended by Embassy’s guests of honor – defenders of Ukraine, who are currently undergoing rehabilitation in one of the US hospitals after being injured during the counter-terrorism operation at the Donbas region.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Valeriy Chaly stressed that on the National Flag Day, Ukraine pays tribute to the fallen heroes: those who was fighting for Ukraine’s independence for centuries as well as those who are now defending its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity from the external aggression.
Valeriy Chaly expressed his gratitude to Ukraine’s military personnel present at the ceremony for their self-sacrifice and stressed that it is a duty of Ukrainian diplomats today to demonstrate the same dedication to defending the national interests of our state at Ukraine’s diplomatic frontline. The Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA underscored also that the National Flag of Ukraine is a symbol of nation’s political unity, its consolidation and determination to defend the security of Ukraine and all its citizens.
Later on the same day in Silver Spring, MD, the National Flag Day and the Independence Day of Ukraine will be celebrated jointly with US Ukrainians of Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.
