On December 1, 2015, the Ambassador of Ukraine in the United States Valeriy Chaly met with members of the U.S. Congress representing the Republican Party. Those in attendance were Congressmen: Ryan Costello, Robert Dold, Michael Fitzpatrick, Louis Gohmert, Frank Guinta, Steven King and Billy Long.
The event was hosted by Congressman Steven King with assistance from Russell Taub, the Taub Feuer and Associates President, and took place at the National Republican Club of Capitol Hill. The discussion was focused on the current situation related to the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, the implementation of reforms in Ukraine, the possibilities for and main areas of a continued support of the U.S. Congress for the efforts of Ukraine to boost the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, carry out reforms and strengthen the economy.
Ambassador Chaly thanked the members of the U.S. Congress for their unabating interest towards Ukraine, as well as for their support for a number of legislative acts passed in the U.S. Congress, including the National Defense Authorization Act – 2016, which, inter alia, include U.S. financial and military assistance to Ukraine.
The participants in today’s discussion concurred with the importance for the international community to pay the priority attention to the situation in Ukraine, which has a defining impact on the future of democracy and international legal order not only on the European continent but also in the entire world. In this context, the U.S. Congressmen reiterated their strong determination to further support Ukraine in countering the aggressive policies of the Kremlin.
