Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Valeriy Chaly took part in a roundtable discussion hosted by the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation (USUF) commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.
The event attendees, which also included Ukrainian literary critic and writer Mykola Riabchuk, USUF President Nadia McConnell and other experts, commemorated the victims of this tragedy, emphasized Ukraine’s efforts to overcome the consequences of the disaster, exchanged personal memories related to this catastrophe and discussed similarities of the Soviet leadership approach towards covering up information on Chornobyl and the current Kremlin policy of denying its aggression against Ukraine.
In his remarks Valeriy Chaly elaborated on the importance of further international support for Ukraine in order to successfully implement the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning, construction of the New Safe Confinement structure and dismantling of contaminated facilities and equipment.
