Honoring the 83rd anniversary of the Holodomor - Genocide 1932-1933 in Ukraine the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA held an action "Light a Candle of Memory" at the Holodomor Memorial in the US capital.
The event started with a solemn requiem service for the victims of famine and all fallen for the freedom of Ukraine performed by clergy of Ukrainian Churches in Washington, D.C.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Valeriy Chaly lighted a symbolic candle. Then the participants of the ceremony laid mourning bundles of wheat to the Memorial.
Valeriy Chaly informed about Holodomor commemorative events held in Kyiv with the participation of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
Addressing the audience, the Head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission said that Ukrainians should always keep in their hearts the memory of millions of innocent
Holodomor victims and do everything possible to ensure that such tragedies never happen again.
In memory of those who have gone into oblivion in times of Great Famine, the mourning candles were lighted at the windows of the Embassy building.
