Ukrainian diplomats and members of the Ukrainian American community of Philadelphia took part at the festivities in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, dedicated to the 98th anniversary of the proclamation of the Reunion Act between Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR).
The Reunion Day celebration started at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center in Jenkintown, where the participants gathered to commemorate the historic event. Michael Sawkiw, Head of UCCA in Washington D.C., Director of Ukrainian National Informational Service delivered a lecture on historical prospects of the event.
The participants also joined for second part the joint prayer held by the Ukrainian American priests at the local Ukrainian St.Maria cemetery following by the flower laying ceremony to honor the memory of one of the Reunion Act authors, ZUNR State Secretary Longyn Tsegelsky and other Ukrainian heroes, who died for freedom of Ukraine.
Minister-Counselor of the Embassy and Deputy Chief of Mission Oksana Shulyar read out Ambassador Valeriy Chaly's address to the Ukrainian-Americans on the occasion of the Reunion Day. The ideas of unity resonated at the event underlining a need for efforts to mobilize support for Ukraine.
