The roundtable was held to discuss priorities in providing humanitarian assistance for Ukraine. The delegations of parliamentarians from Ukraine and Lithuania have joined the event. Ukrainian parliament was represented by the Head of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mrs. Hanna Hopko, Head of the Subcommittee on Sustainable Development, Strategy and Investment of the Committee of Ukrainian parliament on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Security Nataliya Katser-Buchkovska, Deputy Chair of Committee of Ukrainian parliament on Veterans, Combatants, Antiterrorist Operation Participants and Disabled People Affairs Mr. Yevhen Rybchynskyi.
In his remarks Ambassador Valeriy Chaly emphasized that the profound cause of the Chornobyl accident was actually the Soviet system that operated on the basis of mercilessness to human beings. The current system of government in Russia, by the words of Ambassador, is relapse of Soviet one and puts in practice the same mercilessness to humans, that is being so apparently demonstrated in the course of the continued Russian aggression against Ukraine. With regard to the issues related to the assistance to Ukraine from U.S. side, Ambassador Valeriy Chaly called to continue supporting Ukraine.
Head of Foreign Affairs Committee Hanna Hopko in her remarks draw attention to the fact that the three and a half millions of Ukrainians are in need for humanitarian aid as a result of the Russian aggression. Hanna Hopko stressed, that there no signs of cessation of that aggression, on the contrary, Russia’s concentrated force at the territory of Belarus speaks in favor of a probability of launching a new attack against Ukraine.
Representative of the Committee of Ukrainian parliament on fuel and energy complex, nuclear policy and nuclear security Nataliya Katser-Buchkovska has marked the efforts of Ukraine aimed to diversify sources nuclear fuel supply, protect critical infrastructure from the Russian cyberwarfare and reform energy sector as a whole.
