The Head of State expressed gratitude for a strong bipartisan support for Ukraine from the U.S. Congress in the issue of countering the ongoing Russian aggression, enhancement of defense capacity of our country and implementation of the internal reforms.
Petro Poroshenko informed the congressmen on the further escalation of the situation in Donbas caused by daily violations of the ceasefire regime by the pro-Russian militants.
The parties stated that the Kremlin has no political will to terminate violence in Donbas.
In the course of the meeting, the parties noted the necessity of increasing sanctions against Russia until full implementation of the Minsk agreements, as well as restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea.
Petro Poroshenko expressed hope that the U.S. Congress would promptly approve new legislative acts in order to increase support for Ukraine.
The President also urged the U.S. Congress to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 genocide of the Ukrainian nation.
