On July 21-25, 2012, Deputy Minister for Social Policy of Ukraine L.Drozdova was on a working visit to the U.S.
While in Washington D.C. L.Drozdova held meetings at the U.S. Department of State with Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-Large for Combating Trafficking in Persons issues, Chair of the State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons Luis CdeBaca and Special Advisor for International Disability Rights Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Judith Heumann.
Deputy Minister also met with USAID Assistant Administrator Paige Alexander, representatives of the International Financial Corporation (IFC) and World Bank including Director of Global Indicators and Analysis World Bank-IFC A.Lopez-Claros, Program Manager of Doing Business R.Ramalho, Program Officer of Women, Business and the Law S.Iqbal.
At the U.S. Department of Justice L.Drozdova had a meeting with Trial Attorney of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, wherein she discussed various aspects of the bilateral cooperation in this field.
Within the context of Ukraine’s presidency of the OSCE in 2013 L.Drozdova met with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Gender Issues, director of the Education Project at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights June Zeitlin.
The program of the visit also included a number of meetings at the U.S. legislative body, in particular with Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus Marcy Kaptur and U.S. Helsinki Commission Chairman, Member of the U.S. House of Representatives Christopher Smith.
During the above meetings, also attended by Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk, American side was informed about social initiatives introduced by President of Ukraine V.Yanukovych and implementation of the relevant state programs. Also, there were topics as follows discussed at the meetings: development of U.S.-Ukraine cooperation on the government, NGO and civil society level to combat trafficking in persons, promotion of gender equality and rehabilitation of handicapped children.
