On January 5, 2012, the Light of Peace from Bethlehem, delivered from Austria, was handed over to the Embassy of Ukraine to the U.S. by Plast representatives Yuri Deychakiwsky and Solomiya Shpak.
This Christmas tradition to deliver Light of Peace is an international annual event that was launched by Austrian Scouts in 1986. Its main idea is to distribute symbolic Light from the birthplace of Jesus Christ from one scout branch to another as a symbol of peace, love, brotherhood and unity of Christians on the Christmas Eve.
Over the last fifteen years the Ukrainian Scouts have been spreading the Light of Peace to the Ukrainian community, churches, children shelters, hospitals, to let those, who stay away from their families, feel the warmth of Star of Bethlehem.
First Secretary of the Embassy Oresta Starak thanked Plast representatives for this extraordinary gift and expressed confidence that the Light of Peace from Bethlehem will bring people peace, harmony, hope and unite all to do good.
