Ambassador Oksana Markarova appeared on CBS News’ Face The Nation on Sunday to speak about the importance of achieving a sustainable and just peace in Ukraine — essential not only for our nation but for transatlantic security as a whole. She highlighted key facts for viewers:
✅ Putin and Russia alone are responsible for the aggression against Ukraine — starting in 2014 and escalating into the largest war in Europe since World War II in 2022. It is Putin who must end it and face full accountability.
✅ The war is being fought entirely on Ukrainian territory. For Ukrainians, it is existential — but its outcome will shape the security of the entire free world. The idea of “buffer zones” is outdated; the movement of our front line between good and evil is a direct security issue for Europe, the US, and all who truly defend freedom and democracy.
✅ Ukraine fully supports the leadership of the US and President Trump’s sincere desire to end the war — together with our European allies — in a way that works. We know Russia’s tactics of deception like no one else.
✅ Constant coordination between the US, Europe, and Ukraine is key — especially ahead of the upcoming meeting in Alaska.
✅ Ukraine has never been an obstacle to peace. The Alaska summit will be another — and hopefully final — test of whether Putin is serious about ending the war.
We are grateful to Americans for their steadfast support in bringing about a just and lasting peace — for Ukraine and for the world.
