On behalf of the President of Ukraine, Ambassador Oksana Markarova presented the order of Merit, Third grade to the NEWSMAX journalist Greta Van Susteren. This state award recognizes Greta for focusing world attention on Russian atrocities in the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine through her series "Putin's Atrocities: Horror in Ukraine", featured on her nightly Newsmax show, "The Record with Greta Van Susteren", in 2022.
Greta’s series provided an unflinching view of the horrors inflicted by Russian troops since Putin launched his unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Her reports, interviews, and discussions with Ukrainian politicians, civil society representatives, human rights advocates, and U.S. state officials have illuminated the brutality faced by Ukrainians and underscored the urgency of international support.
In addition to her coverage through this series, Greta has made several visits to Ukraine, documenting the devastation firsthand. She has also conducted numerous interviews with Ukrainian politicians, including President Zelenskyy, Head of Office of the President Andriy Yermak, civil society activists, military personnel, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA on different topics further deepening understanding on what’s happening in Ukraine and strengthening US support.
The ceremony took place at the Embassy in the presence of Greta’s family and colleagues.
