A timely conversation between Ambassador Oksana Markarova and French Ambassador Laurent Bili on the future of European defense and Ukraine's place in Europe's security architecture took part at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
In their discussion, the Ukrainian and French ambassadors discussed the recent decisions: The NATO Vilnius Summit, Joint Declaration of support for Ukraine adopted by the G7 leaders, the US and EU response to the war.
Ambassador Oksana Markarova emphasized Ukraine’s goal of joining NATO and the EU, placing importance on the need for a close transatlantic relationship to establish peace in the world. She also offered insights on Ukraine’s next goals and steps in winning the war.
The French Ambassador to the USA shared his assessments of the NATO Vilnius Summit and Paris' view of the impact of European responses to the war on the transatlantic relationship.
The participants also discussed the changes to transatlantic security, the role of nations across all continents in the response to the war against Ukraine, and the necessary steps for recovery and reconstruction in Ukraine.
