Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had a phone conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo.
“We are strongly determined to further develop the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States. Not for the sake of diplomatic formality, but for strengthening a true friendship of the Ukrainian and American peoples,” Dmytro Kuleba said.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine paid special attention to the development of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, which became particularly important during the pandemic. He noted that in the context of the pandemic and its consequences, Ukraine is becoming a guarantor of global food security.
The Minister assured the U.S. Secretary of State that Ukraine is ready to create favorable conditions for American companies currently considering the possibility of relocating their production from other regions of the world in order to optimize supply chains.
Dmytro Kuleba suggested to his American counterpart that promising cooperation projects are put on the agenda of the next Ukrainian-American Strategic Partnership Commission meeting, and that the meeting is held this year.
The parties paid special attention to the results of video conference by the Normandy format foreign ministers on April 30. They noted the important role of Germany and France in facilitating Russia's participation in the dialogue and the fulfillment of its obligations.
Michael R. Pompeo assured of the United States' unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The parties also discussed reforms in Ukraine, including projects and programs supported by the U.S. Government. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister briefed the U.S. Secretary of State on the progress in adopting key reform laws, which are necessary for further successful cooperation with the International Monetary Fund. In particular, he reaffirmed the commitment to adopt the law on banking.
Dmytro Kuleba thanked for the American assistance to Ukraine in curbing the spread of COVID-19, and overcoming socio-economic consequences of the pandemic. He also expressed satisfaction over the fact that Ukrainian “Ruslan” and “Mriya” aircraft are currently delivering medical cargo to the United States, and especially noted the global leadership of the United States in overcoming the pandemic.
