The highly anticipated premiere of the animated fantasy-adventure Mavka. The Forest Song, took place in Washington DC.

Both versions of the film, the Ukrainian and English, had great success with the audience.

The movie is full of the ancient traditions and rituals, ornaments and patterns, national visual symbols in costumes and folk melodies. 

At the same time it reflects very modern and important topics which Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka tried to highlight in her classic fairytale drama “The Forest Song”. Among them are struggle and love, protection of the homeland and preserving nature, respect to traditions but accepting those who are different.

In the opening remarks at the Washington screening the First secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine Kateryna Smagliy stressed the importance of sharing and celebrating Ukrainian literature and culture when Russia deliberately tries to demolish not only the Ukrainian state, but the Ukrainian identity.

It is also crucial that viewers around the world are able to get to know the nature of Ukraine, which has today become a victim of the devastating Russian aggression. 

By attending “Mavka.The Forest Song” viewers not only enjoy the beautiful movie, but also better understand the Ukrainians, whose “hearts are full of something that will never die!’ as Lesya Ukrainka stressed.
