Ambassador Oksana Markarova and the team of the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA joined the Ukrainian community at a traditional gathering near the Holodomor Memorial in Washington, DC on the Remembrance Day of the victims of the Holodomor-genocide in order to pray together for the souls of millions of innocent Ukrainians - men, women and children who died as a result of this terrible crime of the Stalinist regime, committed 90 years ago.
The
memorial service was conducted by the priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Andrew, reverend father Volodymyr Shtelyak, and the priest of the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family, reverend father Robert Hitchens, accompanied by the choir of the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family.
We are thankful to Assistant Administrator of USAID (Bureau for Europe and Eurasia) Erin McKee for joining us this solemn anniversary, and for her words of support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
As Madam Ambassador emphasized in her remarks: “Now, when russia is repeating the Stalinist scenario of extermination of Ukrainians on the eyes of the whole world, more than ever, we count on the support of the world in condemning this crime against humanity and recognizing it as genocide of the Ukrainian people”.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us today. Many thanks to the US Holodomor Committee, and personally to Mykhailo Savkiv, to the entire Ukrainian community in the USA for their cooperation in spreading the truth about the Holodomor and their contribution to the enormous work directed at recognizing it as genocide.
