On April 25, 2013, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk and Defense Attaché Vice Admiral Ihor Kniaz took part in the traditional ceremony of laying wreaths to the “Spirit of the Elbe” bronze plaque held annually at the Arlington National Cemetery.
The ceremony was dedicated to the 68th anniversary of the historic Link-Up of the Soviet Army First Ukrainian Front and the First U.S. Army troops on April 25, 1945 near the town of Torgau in the Eastern Germany at the Elbe River.
The event was also attended by the representatives of diplomatic missions from the CIS countries, World War II veterans, and the U.S. Administration officials.
