On June 13-14, 2013 a first international business conference “ABC: Ukraine & Partners” was hosted in Ukraine.
The event was attended by Prime Minister of Ukraine M.Azarov and members of Ukrainian Government, heads of governments and ministers of Ukraine’s partner-states, top-managers of the leading Ukrainian and foreign investment, banking and financial corporations, heads of chambers and associations for commerce and industry, foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine, economic scholars and experts. Overall, more than 3 thousand participants from 62 countries took part in the forum.
The Conference contributed to a further expansion of contacts between Ukrainian businesses and foreign partners, intensification of government-to-business dialogue and attracting foreign investment to the priority sectors of the national economy.
The representatives of the leading U.S. companies and business associations, including members of the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) and the American Chamber of Commerce (ACC) in Ukraine took an active part in making the event possible. The Presidents of USUBC and ACC M.Williams and J.Zukoski acted as moderators of the panel discussions and individual “round tables”, dedicated to the wide range of issues pertaining to creating appropriate conditions for doing business in Ukraine, attracting investments in the key sectors of national economy (including agricultural sector, IT-industry, pharmaceutical industry), and enhancing the competitiveness of Ukrainian economy.
As a result of the Conference, several important documents on bilateral trade, economic and investment relations between Ukraine and the United States were signed. Among them:
- Agreement on development of cooperation in science and education between the Government of Ukraine and the company “Intel Ukraine”;
- Memorandum of Understanding between the State Agency of Ukraine and the U.S. company “Innova Partners” within the framework of the national project “Technopolis/Bionic Hill”;
- Partnership agreement between the National University of Bio-resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine and American company “AMACO” on transfer of modern technologies in the agricultural complex.
The event proved a significant interest of the U.S. investors and businesses in the Ukrainian market. It is expected that this major event will be held on the annual basis and will become a permanent forum for a dialogue between government and business.
