On October 4, 2013, photo exhibit entitled “Ukraine through the eyes of the National Geographic Society” was opened at the Embassy of Ukraine in the U.S. The photo exhibit is a joint project of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Washington and the National Geographic Society (NGS).
The exhibit has embraced almost 40 images taken by the National Geographic Magazine photographers in Ukraine starting from August 1918 through October this year. The images feature Ukrainian plentiful lands, pre-war and post-war Ukraine, the Chornobyl tragedy, special spirit of major Ukrainian cities as well as Ukrainian people.
In the welcoming remarks of Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk it was underlined that the photo exhibit highlights important events in the history of Ukraine over almost a hundred years, its daily life, culture and traditions. It shows the hardworking and religious nature of Ukrainian people, and demonstrates agricultural and scientific potential of the country.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by the NGS leadership including T.Adamson, NGS Executive Vice President, D.Moore, Executive Vice President of the National Geographic Society and President of Publishing, NG Magazine, Y.Boyle, Senior Vice President, International Publishing, National Geographic Society, and L.Turkovska, Marketing Director, National Geographic, Sonoma Ukraine.
The attendees of the event also included the representatives of the diplomatic corps, American-Ukrainian community, U.S. and Ukrainian media, as well as friends of the Embassy.
It is expected that in 2014 the photo exhibit will travel around the U.S. and will be displayed in New York, Chicago and San-Francisco.
