The Fifth meeting of Political Dialogue / Rule of Law Working Group of Ukraine – U.S. Strategic Partnership Commission co-chared by Advisor to the President of Ukraine Andriy Portnov and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights & Labor T.Melia with participation of Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olena Lukash, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Olefirov and Ambassador of the U.S. to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt took place at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine on October 23, 2013.

During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the issues of human rights, civil society development, freedom of media, and strengthening democracy.

American side pointed out achievements of Ukraine in implementing structural reforms and confirmed its support to Ukraine’s integration with the EU.

The Parties stressed on the importance of regular meetings of Political Dialogue / Rule of Law Working Group as a tool for bilateral consultations in the framework of Ukraine – U.S. Strategic Partnership Commission. The issues to be discussed during the next meeting in Washington in 2014 were outlined as well.
