On November 8, 2013, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk met with representatives of the National Park Service of America (NPS) including: Steve Whitesell, Regional Director for Lands, Resources and Planning for NPS's National Capital Region., Peter May, Associate Regional Director, Stephen Lorenzetti of National Capital Region (Washington Metropolitan Region) and Glenn DeMarr, project coordinator for the Memorial commemorating victims of Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933.
The meeting was also attended by Michael Sawkiw Jr., Chairman of the U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor-Genocide Awareness 1932-1933, Mary Kay Lanzilotta, partner of Hartman-Cox Architects Company, and Larysa Kurylas, project designer of the Holodomor Memorial entitled «Field of Wheat».
Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. expressed his gratitude to all the parties involved in the process of erection in Washington DC of the Holodomor Memorial for their joint efforts and contribution to the implementation of the project.
The parties also confirmed that memorial construction works will be launched in March of 2014 and the opening ceremony will take place in the fall of 2014.
