On November 7, 2013, while in Antigua and Barbuda Gregory Buchai, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Houston, Texas, met with H.E. Winston Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, to discuss the prospects of cooperation between Ukraine and the Caribbean state.
During the meeting the sides exchanged views on mutually beneficial spheres of cooperation between the two countries, particularly trade and investment, as well as further development of bilateral legal framework. The parties also discussed a possibility of opening Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Antigua and Barbuda to facilitate bilateral contacts.
Mr. Buchai informed of export and investment potential of our country, in particular in agriculture, energy, machine building, chemical and steel industry and conveyed the letter of Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Olexander Motsyk, addressed to the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.
H.E. Baldwin Spencer noted the absence of issues of concern in relations between Ukraine and Antigua and Barbuda, and expressed willingness to further promote mutually beneficial partnership, especially in the spheres of trade, tourism, banking and finance. The development of the legal framework between the two countries was also defined as one of the priorities.
In this context, the parties agreed to arrange a visit of the Ukrainian businesses to Antigua and Barbuda and appoint the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in this country shortly in order to encourage progress in bilateral relations, protect the interests of Ukrainian citizens and businesses and contribute to realization of the foreign policy priorities of Ukraine in the Caribbean region.
