On November 23, 2013 a solemn event, organized by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine, took place in New York.
It was attended by Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Olexander Motsyk, Ukrainian diplomats, U.S. Congress and State Department representatives, local authorities, members of diplomatic corps and the Ukrainian diaspora.
A requiem service for the memory of the Holodomor victims was served at St. Patrick's Cathedral by hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox and Ukrainian Catholic churches in the United States.
In the speech delivered after Panachyda, Ambassador of Ukraine O.Motsyk expressed his gratitude to the U.S. government, senators and congressmen, Ukrainian Americans and all people of goodwill for their words and actions to support spreading the truth about the Holodomor in Ukraine.
The audience was also addressed by President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee Tamara Gallo Olexy, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Department of State Representative William P. Pope.
