The Crimea, an integral part of Ukraine, is being occupied by foreign troops.
On March 21, 2014, the developments were characterized by the following:
Assaults and blockade of Ukrainian military bases on the peninsula, extension of Russia’s military presence in Crimea
- On lake Donuzlav, seven Ukrainian military ships are blocked by Russian vessels
- In Belbek, Ukrainian Airforce division has refused to comply with demands to surrender arms
- On Striletska Bay near Sevastopol, Ukrainian submarine “Zaporizhia” was seized by Russian armed forces
- On cape Fiolent, Ukrainian military division was assaulted and forcefully seized
- In Prevalne, personnel of Ukrainian military division was forcefully dispersed by Russian armed forces
- In Sevastopol, Russian occupiers have begun property inventory on the territory of military hospital of Ukrainian Navy
- Altogether, 26 state infrastructure facilities of Ukraine have been seized and 38 (including 31 military) are being blocked
Political escalation on behalf of Russia, illegal separatist activities of self-proclaimed “puppet” government of Crimea
- Russian president V.Putin has signed a law on Crimea’s accession to Russia
- Announcement of plans to review “Kharkiv agreements” and the price of Russian gas for Ukraine
- Unfounded allegations by Russian Prime Minister D.Medvedev about Ukraine’s $12 billion debt to Russia
- “Puppet” government has decided on denying entry to Crimea for over 200 members of Ukrainian parliament
- Announcement of plans to build a pipeline connecting Russia to Crimea
- Announcement of plans to aggregate so-called “self-defense” forces of Crimea into the Russian army
- In Armyansk, so-called “self-defense” forces have kidnapped two Romanian journalists
- Whereabouts of at least 10 pro-Ukrainian who have previously disappeared in Crimea are still unknown
