On June 12, 2014, the U.S. Department of State with the participation of State Secretary Kerry installed Memorial Wall to honor those, contractors and federal employees alike, killed while supporting the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement mission abroad.
The memorial commemorates 87 men and women who lost their lives between 1989 and 2013 including in Iraq (28 persons), Peru (18), Afghanistan (15), Colombia (15) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (5).
As State Secretary Kerry underlined in his remarks, “This is much more than a list of names. It’s a legacy of stories, individual stories, each one with a human face that tells the story of a brave person who served their country.”
The list of the personnel memorialized on the wall includes two Ukrainians – Vitaliy Saykin and Volodymyr Tsissarskyi, flight crew members, who were killed on April 24, 2006, in Afghanistan.
At the end of the ceremony State Secretary Kerry laid a wreath at the Memorial Wall.
