Pursuant to the arrangements achieved at the third meeting of the Ukrainian-American Commission on Strategic Partnership (Washington, February 15, 2011), on April 7, 2011 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine the working meeting was held on the level of heads of the consular services of the Ministry and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. The Ukrainian delegation included the representatives of the Ministries of Foreign and Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the State Department on Adoption and Child Protection.
During the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of visa and migration issues, current state and prospects of Ukrainian-American cooperation in the consular area, the implementation of the existing bilateral legal framework, cooperation in international adoption, etc.
In the context of further liberalization of visa regime for the nationals of Ukraine the U.S. side announced about its unilateral decision to abolish as from April 20, 2011 the need to interview when applying for a new visa (type B1/B2, C1/D, F, I and M) for those citizens of Ukraine who has received U.S. visas during the past 12 months. According to statistics of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, this simplification will now take over 10% of potential applicants.
