On October 28, 2014, Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Olexander Motsyk read a lecture at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
The main topics of his presentation were the situation in Ukraine and the fight against the Russian aggression against our state. He also briefed the audience of students and faculty about the results of parliamentary elections, the progress of European integration and reforms in our country, and the Ukraine-US strategic partnership.
The votes casted by the Ukrainian people reaffirmed their European aspirations, the Ukrainian diplomat said. Ukraine expects the elections will result in effective continuation of inclusive national dialogue and implementation of much needed reforms, he said.
As on October 28, Ukraine celebrates the 70th anniversary of expulsion of Nazi occupants. Olexander Motsyk told the audience about the huge contribution our country made to the victory over Nazism and the losses suffered by Ukraine.
The lecture was followed by a lively discussion.
The University of Maryland is a public university located in the city of College Park, Maryland. It was established in 1856. Its enrollment exceeds 37000 students, while the number of faculty members is over 4200, making it is the largest university in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Two Nobel Prize laureates worked at UMD, while Google co-founder Sergey Brin is among the famous alumni.
