President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew in the course of which the parties have discussed the enhancement of bilateral cooperation in financial-economic sphere between Ukraine and the United States and the allocation of additional financial aid by the United States.
The President has expressed gratefulness to the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury for "a very important visit and a powerful signal of the U.S. aimed at supporting Ukraine in various spheres: political, financial and military".
"I would like to express gratitude to the United States for additional USD 2 billion of financial guarantees that will let us significantly strengthen our financial stability," the President has emphasized.
The Head of State has underlined the importance of broadening cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF. "This cooperation is not an ordinary direct financial assistance. It is rather a "financial pillow" for the implementation of profound reforms in Ukraine that are crucially important," the President has noted.
The U.S. Secretary of the Treasury has expressed condolences to the President of Ukraine and the Ukrainian nation over the recent tragedies in the East and assured of solidarity of the American nation with Ukrainians in these severe days.
"We know how difficult it is for Ukraine to reform the country, but we urge you to keep on moving this way. We are having a close coordination of actions with the IMF realizing that you have to deal with two tasks at once: the implementation of reforms and the maintenance of security," Jacob Lew has emphasized.
The U.S. Secretary of the Treasury has also spoken in favor of strong transatlantic solidarity with Ukraine. The U.S. is closely coordinating its efforts with the EU in order to support Ukraine and elaborate a type of policy towards Russia that will increase the diplomatic opportunities of resolving the situation in the Donbas.
The President has informed that the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities were focused on the restoration of macro-economic stability and trust in the banking system. He has also informed on the progress of reforms, particularly on deregulation, law enforcement reform, judicial reform and anti-corruption policy. "The contest for the post of Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau is being held. It has already attracted dozens of reputable experts-applicants from both Ukraine and foreign countries, including the USA," the President noted.
The President has expressed gratitude to the United States for the support of Ukraine's efforts on the return of assets stolen by the representatives of the former regime. According to the Head of State, this will not only help overcome corruption, but also become a tough preventive measure.
The interlocutors have also negotiated long-term instruments of developing the Ukrainian economy, particularly technical cooperation between Ukraine and the United States and expert support of the U.S. in the sphere of budget planning, public procurement, etc. Also, Petro Poroshenko expects the USA to participate in the Donor conference scheduled for April 2015.
