Public schools of U.S. capital had Ukrainian Food Day on January 29, 2015, organized with the support from the Embassy of Ukraine, during which Ukrainian food was offered to students for breakfast and lunch. During the day, the students also had an opportunity to participate in quizzes on geography, history and culture of Ukraine.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser honored the event by issuing an official Proclamation declaring January 29, 2015 the Ukrainian Food Day in Washington, DC.

Hardy Middle School hosted a special ceremony, attended by Ambassador Olexander Motsyk, featuring a performance by Gerdan Duo and an exhibition of Ukrainian folk arts and crafts organized by Ukrainian American volunteers.
