On October 13, on the eve of the Day of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin – when the Day of Ukraine’s Defenders and Ukrainian Cossacks’ Day (Ukraine’s 15-18th century army) are observed in our country – the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA honored heroes who by their lives defend Ukraine’s statehood in the Donbas region.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Valeriy Chaly, staff of the Embassy and their relatives as well as volunteers from local Ukrainian community, who were invited to the Embassy on this occasion, congratulated heartily the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Ihor Hordiychuk, Oleksander Kosolapov, Mykola Bereza, Vadym Mazhnychenko andVadym Svyrydenko, who are currently on medical rehabilitation program in the USA after being severely wounded during the counterterrorism operation in the Donbas region.
The children of the Embassy’s staff delivered their own felicitation: poems about their homeland and its heroes as well as specially prepared drawings, which they presented to the defenders of Ukraine.
The event featured a preview of Ukrainian documentary “Raid” telling the true story of Ukrainian paratroopers who made the longest in the world modern military history raid behind the enemy lines and stopped the advance of aggressor’s armed forces in August-September 2014.
On the occasion of the Day of Ukraine’s Defenders, the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA opened an art exhibit “The Portrait of the Soldier” – 21 impressive pictures of counterterrorism operation warriors taken by Ukrainian artist Victoria Yasynska combined with the quotations about their experience at the forefront of fighting against the external aggression.
