On February, 10 the Embassy of Ukraine in the U.S. in cooperation with the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus organized in the U.S. Capitol a viewing of Oscar Nominated Documentary Feature “Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom” dedicated to the events that took place at Kyiv Euromaidan in 2013/2014.
The event was attended by a large audience including representatives of the U.S. Congress and Department of State, Washington based political and expert think-tanks, organizations of Ukrainian diaspora, and mass-media.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly emphasized that the screening takes place on the eve of the second anniversary of Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity and noted the importance of the film telling the world about the patriotism and unity of the Ukrainian people defending their right to live in a sovereign, democratic, prosperous, and European Ukraine.
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, who is also a Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus, said in her remarks, in particular, that documenting the history of a movement that changed Ukraine’s course, the film pays tribute to the courage and selfless patriotism that is at the very core of the long struggle of the Ukrainian people for true liberty. She also promised to continue to be a strong voice of support for Ukraine in the U.S. Congress.
Evgeny Afineevsky, director of the film, also took part in the screening and held discussion with the audience.
