On March 9 – the Global Day of Support for Nadiya Savchenko – the public rally was held in Washington, DC, downtown to demonstrate the solidarity with the illegally imprisoned in Russia Ukrainian military pilot, Iraqi war veteran and the member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The public event initiated by the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA was attended by the Embassy’s staff and families, US Ukrainian community of Washington, DC, and foreign diplomats.
In his address to the gathering, Ambassador of Ukraine Valeriy Chaly noted that it was not by chance decided to have that rally near Taras Shevchenko Monument in Washington, DC. March 9 is 202-year anniversary of the great Ukrainian poet and patriot’s birthday. His lyrics is about such important universal values as freedom and love to your native land. It leads and inspires us in countering external aggression and occupation of the part of Ukraine. We cannot rest until the territorial integrity of our country is restored and all Ukrainians, who are illegally kept in custody by Kremlin’s regime and its gang proxies, are safe and back home.
The Ambassador briefed about the efforts of Ukraine’s leadership aimed at substantive increase of the international pressure on Russia and urging it to release Nadiya Savchenko and all Ukrainian hostages. He stressed that clear official signals had been sent by the USA and other countries, while the public support for Nadiya Savchenko is demonstrated all over the world.
