On March 10, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly began his working trip to the state of Ohio.

During the visit aimed to strengthen the ties between the two countries at the regional level, the Ambassador will meet with the Mayors of Cleveland and Parma, visit the NASA Glenn Research Center, hold a number of meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian Community of the state. He will also visit Ukrainian Churches and schools, as well as the Ukrainian Museum-Achieves, known for one of the largest collections of items of Ukrainian cultural heritage and arts, and research materials which contain documentation about Ukrainian immigration to the United States.
On his first day, the Ambassador of Ukraine was invited by U.S. Republican Senator and Co-Chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus Robert Portman to attend the annual Lincoln Day Celebration. At this event, Ambassador Chaly met with several members of the U.S Congress, including U.S. Senators Robert Portman and Joni Ernst, U.S. Congressmen Dave Joyce and Jim Renacci, as well as Ohio Senate President Keith Faber and a number of state representatives.
Ambassador Chaly informed his collocutors about the reforms taking place in Ukraine. He drew their attention to the continuing systemic violations by Russia of the Minsk agreements and emphasized the importance of U.S. leadership in maintaining the sanctions against Russia. The Ambassador specifically highlighted the plight, abduction and illegal detention of Nadiya Savchenko, stressing the importance of increased international pressure on the Kremlin to immediately release the member of Ukraine’s Parliament and PACE delegate, as well as the Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia.
For their part, the U.S. legislators assured the Ambassador of their continued strong support of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, most notably in granting Ukraine weapons of defensive nature. U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, who before being elected to the Senate spent more than two decades in the U.S. military service, expressed her sincere support to the Ukrainian pilot fighter and promised to continue to make every effort in supporting the Ukrainian nation.
