Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly with his wife Liudmyla Mazuka participated in commemorating the victims of totalitarian regimes that took place in Washington, DC.
They laid the wreath from the Embassy of Ukraine to the Victims of Communism Memorial to pay tribute to the millions of Ukrainians shot without a fair trial, murdered by hunger in 1921-1923, 1932-1933 and 1946-1947, Crimean Tatars deported in 1944 and all other victims of communists’ repressions.
Executive Director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation Marion Smith and recipient of 2016 Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom Paul Goble emphasized in their remarks to the participants of the event positive transformations in Ukraine that had braked away from its soviet past and stood up to defend democratic values. The Chairman of the Foundation Dr. Lee Edwards paid tribute to the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine and urged everyone to visit the Holodomor Memorial in Washington, DC dedicated in November 2015.
