In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly with his wife Liudmyla Mazuka took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibitions: «Money, Sovereignty and Power. The Paper Currency of Revolutionary Ukraine, 1917-1920» and «In Metal, On Paper: Coins, Banknotes, and Postage Stamps of Independent Ukraine, 1991-2016» in the Ukrainian Museum in New York.
The exhibitions showcase the thousand-year history of Ukraine, from its early Kyivan-Rus’ period to the present day, and most important stages of Ukraine’s state-building process.
The Ukrainian Museum is organizing this exhibition in partnership with the National Bank of Ukraine, the Ukrainian State Enterprise of Posts (USEP “Ukrposhta”) and the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The curators of the exhibit: Bohdan Kordan, Professor and Director of the Prairie Centre for the Study of Ukrainian Heritage and Yurii Savchuk, Senior Researcher Associate at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
During the opening, a unique event was held – the first ceremonial repayment of a Ukrainian postage stamp beyond the borders of Ukraine.
This important task was accomplished by Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly, Ukrposhta's CEO Igor Smilyansky, President of the Board of Trustees of the Ukrainian Museum in New York Renata Holod.
The event was also attended by Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko with his wife and Consul General of Ukraine in New York Igor Sybiga.
