On the day of 203rd anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko Embassy of Ukraine together with the Ukrainian community has honored his memory by laying flowers near the monument of Kobzar in Washington.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly in his address to the participants said that a few years ago no one could imagine that in 21st century we will face a war - once again to defend the independence, freedom and territorial integrity of our country. Today we are doing everything possible for the liberation of Ukraine from the occupants. The pointers that Great Kobzar left for us such as dignity, freedom and love to our country, today help us to struggle. In the most difficult and tragic moments we remember that truth, will and God are on our side, as written by Ukrainian poet.
President of the Ukrainian World Congress Eugene Czolij also addressed the audience.
The highlight of the ceremony was the reading of Shevchenko's poems by young Ukrainian boy from Delaware state named Timothy.
After the ceremony Tymofiyko and his family visited the Ukrainian Embassy on the invitation of Ambassador Valeriy Chaly.
