Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly met with Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker and Ranking Member Robert Menendez.
The discussion covered the current priorities of cooperation with U.S. Congress, primarily in enhancing the pressure on the Russian Federation. The Foreign Minister briefed the senators on the present situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and in Crimea, as well as on Ukraine’s reform progress.
He thanked the senators for their numerous legislative initiatives aimed to support Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
Minister Klimkin praised the historic decision of the United States Senate to adopt a resolution commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor and recognizing the tragic events of the 1932-1933 as a genocide against the Ukrainian people.
Touching upon the priorities of support of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin stressed the importance of passing into law the proposed by the Senate and House appropriators increased levels of assistance to Ukraine in the FY 2019 State, Pentagon, and USAID budgets.
