Ambassador of Ukraine Launches the Festival of Lights

On November 28, 2012, Ambassador of Ukraine Olexander Motsyk together with Senator Orrin Hatch served as the Honored Speakers at the 35th Festival of Lights Lighting Ceremony at the Washington D.C. Temple Visitors’ Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located in Kensington, Maryland.
In his remarks, Ambassador Motsyk told about the history and present-day situation in Ukraine and Ukraine-US relations. Ukraine, stressed the Ambassador, is a champion of religious freedom in its region, as evidenced by the recently open Kyiv Temple of the Church.
The Lighting Ceremony was attended by ambassadors, congressmen and senators, religious and business leaders. The Mormon Choir of Washington D.C., which performed during the evening, included several Ukrainian Christmas songs into the program.
