On November 28, 2012, the Embassy of Ukraine to the US hosted a lecture entitled “Architectural Heritage of Ukraine: Preserving the National Identity” by Kateryna Goncharova, Director of Scientific Research, Ukrainian State Research and Project Institute. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Culture and Information Centre in association with School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, University of Maryland.
Senior Scientific Researcher and Director of the Scientific Research Section Goncharova’s presentation illustrated the architectural heritage that defines Ukraine’s cultural image. As K.Honcharova emphasized in her speech, “Ancient archaeological sites, sacred architectural masterpieces of the Middle Ages and Baroque-era wooden architecture, numerous buildings, erected in a variety of architectural styles such as Art Nouveau, Empire, Renaissance, Classicism, Gothic, etc. - are all part and parcel of an architectural heritage of Ukraine”.
Following the lecture the guests of the Embassy were invited to watch the documentary about Ukraine, enjoy the collection of artistic pieces and indulge in a feast of traditional Ukrainian entrees.
