On April 26, 2012, the delegation of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations visited Washington D.C. at the invitation of the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter. The delegation included Primates of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church/Kyiv Patriarchate - Filaret, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church - Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church - Mefodiy, Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine - Yaakov Dov Bleich, Mufti of Ukraine and Head of Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine - Ahmed Tamim, bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine - Markiyan Trofymyak and religious leaders - representatives of the Protestant denominations in Ukraine.
While in Washington D.C. the delegation met with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor T.Melia and Director of Office of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Affairs of the Department of State B.Hant. Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Olexander Motsyk also took part in the meetings.
The visit to Washington D.C. concluded with solemn evening at the Ukrainian Embassy. In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. O.Motsyk emphasized the importance of the visit for the Ukraine - U.S. relations to promote in the United States better understanding of the processes currently taking place in Ukrainian society; first of all, in all-faith dialogue as well as in relations between Churches and Government.
Those present honored memory of Chornobyl tragedy victims by performing an all-faith prayer.
