May 4, 2012. The fifth time in a row the Embassy of Ukraine participates in Flower Mart Festival in the Washington National Cathedral.

One of the Washington’s premier outdoor spring events, Flower Mart, has been held each May for the past 70 years.

The main task of this event is to make a flower composition, which would feature both marvelous design and national traditions and customs.

This year the Ukrainian floral arrangement, created from small colored chrysanthemums and red carnations, is called “Ukrainian Easter Egg”.

For ages the egg has been considered as a symbol of origin of life and procreation. Our ancestors believed that an egg had magical powers – it brought peace, happiness and prosperity.

Many guests of the National Cathedral celebrated the traditional originality and sophistication of Ukrainian flower installation.
